Featuring a unique design concept inspired by the elegance of Chinese culture and Phuket’s industrial heritage, YUE Restaurant & Bar is an ideal spot for a casual lunch, special dinner or even a business meeting. With plenty of seating and exclusive private dining rooms, the venue is ridiculously charming.
YUE Restaurant & Bar promises Cantonese excellence in the form of its cuisine, which showcases handcrafted specialities and signature dishes in addition to classic favourites such as Dim Sum, Shu Mei and Har Gow. The menu here is extensive, so be sure to ask the friendly wait staff for their recommendations. My dining partner and I did, and trust me, those recommendations did not disappoint.
We started our meal with quintessential Chinese favorites including Crispy Roasted Duck Spring Rolls, BBQ Pork Buns and Xiao Long Bao with pork. While all these appetizers were delicious, the Xiao Long Bao with pork was the standout. These delicate, broth-filled steamed dumplings were so full of flavour and a wonderful start to the remainder of our lunch.
As soon as the appetizers were devoured, we were served a satisfying mixed mushroom herbal soup and a heaping plate of crispy shimeji mushrooms. Deep-fried and served with a special soy sauce, the mushrooms were light and tasty and a perfect accompaniment to the warmth of the soup.
When the staff brought the main courses out, I was absolutely delighted because not only were they plated and presented beautifully, BUT the aromas wafting off of each dish made my mouth water. For our main courses, we chose Mapo Tofu, Wok-Fried Black Pepper Beef and the restaurant’s Original Peking Duck.
Mapo Tofu is one of my all-time favourite dishes, and the serving platter was loaded with minced pork, shiitake mushrooms, ginger, garlic, bean curd and Sichuan pepper sauce. The fragrant dish is full of intense flavours and was both savoury and silky with each bite. I can’t wait to visit the restaurant & bar to eat it again.
The Wok-Fried Black Pepper Beef featured tender Australian beef striploin, spring onion, capsicum and black pepper sauce. This dish is extremely tasty and features a lot of different textures – from the melt-in-your-mouth striploin to the crunchy capsicum.
The Original Peking Duck was, without a doubt, the highlight of the entire lunch. It’s no secret how iconic and well-loved this dish is around the world, and the one served at YUE Restaurant & Bar is one of the best I’ve ever had. Glistening, extremely crispy and tasty duck skin accompanied by thin pancakes, cucumber, spring onion and Hoisin sauce. Each bite was phenomenal and a complete multi-sensory experience.
Truthfully, the entire dining experience was marvellous.
YUE Restaurant & Bar is truly something special, and the refined Cantonese cuisine the establishment is so popular for is incredibly tasty. In addition to the à la carte menu, there’s also a family sharing and dim sum menu. The restaurant & bar also has a unique selection of premium teas, coffee, signature mocktails, a lot of classic adult beverages and an interesting wine list.
Located at the Courtyard by Marriott Phuket Town, YUE Restaurant & Bar is open daily for lunch from 11am-2.30pm, and for dinner from 6pm-10.30pm. Reservations are recommended, dress is smart casual and there is plenty of parking available on-site.
