Answering your vegan junk food prayers

The first and only dedicated vegan junk food restaurant in the south of Thailand, Vegan Junkie also serves your healthy favourites like bowls, wraps, smoothies and locally made kombucha. The menu of insanely scrummy vegan creations was curated by Christina Wylie herself along with Joseph Tanner (who is half Lebanese half Thai), creatively showing that vegans don’t just survive on lettuce. You will get to gorge on vegan fast food that’s just as ‘meaty’, naughty and satisfying .. as its carnivorous and milky contenders!

We ordered:

  • Beyond Burger 275 baht
  • Falafel & Hummus 190 baht
  • Olive & Muchroom Pizza 270 baht
  • Salted caramel shake 185 baht
  • Blueberry muffin smoothie 130 baht

Okay now, I have a thing for all things sweet but THIS. Salted. Caramel. Shake. What the vegan!! Made with their homemade salted caramel ice cream, vegan caramel popcorn, vegan coconut whip cream topped with caramel sauce. The sweetness and texture was spot on, everything blended so well. I had to refrain from ordering a second so I could eat their highly raved vegan pizza. Their pizza dough is homemade and rolled out to order – so you get everything fresh! Their cheese is made from cashew and coconut but I’m telling you right now it tasted like real cheese! Blown away.

Definitely try: Falafels - homemade to Chef Joe’s family recipe. The hummus was ultra-smooth with creamy texture and packed with flavor! Top scores for this one. The tahini sauce and Wraps selection is also made with love by Chef Joe. My next indulgence would be their Wake ‘n’ Bakon burger, Chick’n Shawarma pizza [best seller!] with the Mango Beach smoothie.

I do visit other vegan spots to discover (more) plant-based dishes, and I can say they are delicious and nutritional. Take time to know what you eat. I won’t be going to the extreme and turn vegan, but I do believe incorporating plant-based dishes to your diet will give it balance, and is a great step towards a greener more sustainable lifestyle.

Psst.. I’ve been told kombucha cocktail concoctions are in the making! Well well, I can’t deny Christina has a great eye for opportunity, and never one to do something standard – she’s about to make magic and as always, in support and collaboration with local suppliers So follow Vegan Junkie now on Facebook to get their latest updates!
