Looking for Khanohm Jeen Breakfast?

I discovered kanom jeen when my Thai colleague used to buy me a small packet for breakfast every morning. It’s addictive! I've discovered a great place in Chalong to indulge in kanom jeen whenever I want, and eat as much as I can! This is the first time I’ve come across such a big restaurant dedicated to this dish - with so many options and side dishes for you to enjoy. I've been going every week now eating the Rice Noodles with the curries, but for this visit when I took pictures I chose to eat rice instead.

[Choose from]

  • Coconut Milk with Peanut sauce [sweet]
  • Fish Curry sauce
  • Fish Organs Sour sauce
  • Green Chicken Curry
  • Chicken Feet Curry with Fish Ball sauce
  • Spicy Pork sauce
  • Beef Curry ‘Nam Ngeaw’ sauce (Northern style)
  • Crab Curry sauce

[Spicy level IMO]

You can also enjoy Fried Chicken and Fried Pork Belly (displayed at the end of the curries) every day! In many places, the pork belly tends to be so deep fried that it becomes crunchy, tough to bite/chew. But the fried pork belly here is a winner for me because the meat is still tender. May not be your thing, but I enjoy a balanced bite of lean meat AND pork fat.

There is a variety of Thai desserts breakfast box and packaged snacks on display at the counter for you to choose from. My favourite is 'Kao Niew Na Kung' (12 Baht) – Yellow sticky rice with sweet shrimp paste topping. This is by a local Thai lady who has been making this for over 30 years! I’ve been told her secret recipe is made from minced shrimp with scraped coconut.

Also do try their homemade desserts Lord Chong (or 'Cendol') and Oh-el (20Baht each). The Oh-el is a combination of crunched ice, syrup, red bean and watermelon in it. Not too sweet, in my opinion.

At Chalong.
