Ranggup dan Enak Sekali! [Which means crispy and very delicious in Bahasa].

When Dewi’s posts started appearing on my FB newsfeed, with the tubs of sambal deviously placed with all her Nasi Penyet and Nasi Lemak orders – I could not resist! When I learn that Dewi is Indonesian, I was very excited to try her dishes, and I'm glad I did - authentic flavours especially the sambal that she uses for all her dishes! Dewi’s version is Sambal Terasi or Sambal Belacan = fried shrimp paste sambal.

NASI PENYET 180 THB
The original version of Ayam Penyet Indonesia (more specifically Javanese) is usually fried chicken that is smashed (flattened) to make it softer. Dewi’s version features crispy fried chicken wings served with fresh cucumber, tomato, cabbage & lettuce slices, sambal and a packet of crackers. Fried chicken was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Forget the cutlery, ate with my hands and it was not oily at all. Verdict? Chicken wings was fried to perfection, and the spicy sambal terasi made the overall dish complete!

NASI LEMAK 180 THB
To my Malaysian friends in Phuket, here’s another place to get your nasi lemak fix!! In Malaysia, you can get nasi lemak anywhere. Sold in street side stalls in mini banana leaf packets for as low as RM1, or go to ‘mamak’ (hawker) stalls / restaurants to enjoy a selection of various side meat dishes for a more substantial breakfast, lunch, dinner or supper meal! Dewi’s version is with Beef Rendang served with fragrant coconut rice, hardboiled egg, small fried anchovies with sambal, fresh cucumber, roasted peanuts, tomato, cabbage & lettuce slices, and a packet of crackers. Verdict? Fragrant beef rendang, delicious and exactly like the nasi lemak I get in Malaysia. Spot on! nothing like a good old nasi lemak with rendang!

Dewi also runs a hot sauce business for the past 2.5 years, which is very popular with the locals and expats in Thailand. You can get more info on her website www.dewihotsauce.com
