Classic dishes and authentic fare at Mare Italian Restaurant

I’m a big fan of Italian food, so when the good folks at Mare Italian Restaurant asked if I’d like to come and sample their new menu offerings, I couldn’t resist. Having no idea what was in store for us, the Where to Eat in Phuket team and I headed to the restaurant for a very enjoyable evening.
Service at Mare Italian Restaurant is excellent. We were seated straight away, introduced to resident Italian Chef Yvano, offered the wine list and informed about the kind of dishes we could expect to dine on during the evening. Trust me when I say that the new menu does not disappoint. It’s loaded with colourful, unique dishes that are tastefully presented. Each and every new menu item blends a variety of ingredients for simple, delicious flavours.
We dined on a variety of dishes, including Parma ham served with melon, a lush Risotto of asparagus, shrimp, dill and lemon zest as well as a refreshing Feta Salad which included mint, lemon oil, cucumber and feta cheese served on watermelon wedges. This dish was really tasty and light; perfect for snack or as a starter. Another standout dish on the new menu is a Seafood Salad with apple vinegar and salamoia lemon sauce. While I’m no fan of seafood, mostly due to allergies, I must say that the only way to describe this dish is as “a holiday in your mouth.” The dish is light and simple, but so full of zesty flavour. The Seafood Salad is definitely the showstopper of the new menu.
Other dishes included a variety of pizzas, of which my favorited was the Evergreen - a tasty vegetarian pizza loaded with green veggies. The Mixed Pork Platter was also good and included many different pork cuts cooked to perfection.
Upon the arrival of the desserts, we were already stuffed, but honestly, who says no to desserts? We certainly didn’t! We were presented with Brandy Snap Rolls stuffed with chocolate and strawberry mousse as well as huge portions of Zuppa Inglese. This dessert features custard cream, chocolate, sponge cake, rose syrup and blackberries. It’s extremely decadent and due to the large portions, best shared.
If you’re looking to dine on classic Italian dishes in a lovely setting, I can’t recommend Mare Italian Restaurant enough. Although located in the Centara Grand Beach Resort, the restaurant is open to the public. Prices are fair and there is plenty of parking on-site. You won’t go wrong if you give the new menu at Mare Italian Restaurant a try when you’re in the need for an Italian food fix!
