There are few restaurants that have all the ingredients necessary – exquisite food, excellent wines, attentive service, a unique ambience and an idyllic setting – for a luxurious and unparalleled tropical dining experience. Mom Tri’s Kitchen, at Villa Royale, the secluded former residence of renowned architect ML Tri Devakul, has created a superior recipe.

The menu is a presentation of Mediterranean and Thai flavoured delights that have been created by Executive Chef Sura Putha. The Hot Crab Soufflé – baked crab meat flavoured with spices and the Shrimp Florentine – spinach crêpes rolled in shrimp and cream sauce – proved to be a perfect introduction to the delicately spiced and exquisite tastes of the chef’s fusion cuisine. Also superb were the main courses: Gung Kata Noi – sauté rock lobster with Thermidor sauce with vegetables and jasmine rice and the Poo Nim Goong Lai Kratien Prik Thai – soft-shell crab and tiger prawn with garlic and black peppercorn sauce with jasmine rice and vegetables. These succulent dishes with different textures and taste combinations left us impressed with the chef’s creativity and talent.

For dessert, we enjoyed a combination of traditional and exotic flavours – the Lime Cheese Cake with raspberry sauce and the Warm Melting Chocolate Cake with green tea ice cream.

A special tribute to the evening was the accompanying ‘Wines by the Glass”. An Australian Grenache - Grenache Mclaren from South Australia and a French Chablis, Verget, each with their unique tastes and bodies proved first class complements to the superb starter and main course dishes. The sweet taste of a dessert wine, a French Muscut de Beaumes de Venise, was another outstanding recommendation.

An exceptional evening calls for extras that are often the reserve of the discerning diner. With cappucinos, brandy glasses of fine liqueurs and Cuban cigars in hand, surrounded by the unmatched setting of beauty and splendour the stage is complete.
