Hog’s Breath Café

A deep breath in hog heaven? Here is the pleasure of casual dining in an environment with a warm atmosphere highlighted by friendly staff and efficient service. Seating of wooden benches and tables canopied with corrugated metal roofs and a décor of collectible items, memorabilia and posters of events from years gone by lend an added touch in promoting a fun and party feel. Add a menu that features Prime Rib – top quality beef that is slow-cooked for 18 hours and finished with high temperature searing on the chargrill to seal in the flavours – as its mainstay and there is the formula for a unique approach to eating out.

The first of its kind in Thailand, the newly opened Hog’s Breath Café at Jungceylon has its origins on Airlie Beach in North Queensland in Australia and has since grown into a theme restaurant concept in other locations from its beach house beginnings in 1989. Founder Don Algie who came to the area on his sailing yacht Storm, is also known for organising the successful Hog’s Breath Race Week, an event that was originally intended to promote his restaurant.

Hearty foods of Western flavours using fresh ingredients lend to the restaurant’s philosphy of providing quality food with portions large enough to please all. The Finger Food Combo was almost a meal in itself providing a sampler plate of potato skins, buffalo wings, crumbled chicken, calamari served with a duo of dipping sauces – a lime sweet chilli sauce of Hog’s Breath Honey Mustard. A superb variety of delights!

The Blackened Prime Rib lay testimony to the restaurant’s slogan, ‘The Best a Steak Can Get’. Seasoned with blackened seasoning, a light Cajun flavour, the perfectly cooked medium rare steak was accompanied by mushroom gravy, a baked potato and salad. The Boss Hog Burger of double beef, double cheese, tomato, onion, beetroot and BBQ sauce served with curly fries was also a superb choice.

The Mississippi Mud Cake served warm with a chocolate sauce and cream and vanilla ice cream was a delight to be savoured. A decadent touch to the meal!

If you are looking for unbeatable steaks and a superb array of Western fare within a casual and fun setting, Hog’s Breath is a place to satisfy and go the whole hog.
