As they say, it’s all about ‘location’. Well, you can’t get much better than ‘Twilight’ at The SIS Kata, boasting some of the best views across the Andaman and with home-made creations by Chef Sonthaya.
Perched on the 4th floor of The SIS Kata Resort, Twilight Sky is as open-air terrace restaurant that boasts outstanding views over Kata Beach and out across the bay. Perfect for watching one of Phuket’s sunsets, or just to relax while sipping a tropical cocktail.
The service team is all smiles, while they seat us immediately at a corner table. Quick to bring the menus, they are eager to offer recommendations for food and drink without being intrusive. It was refreshing to see restaurant staff asking us questions about our favourite foods, what we can and can’t eat, and if we have any food allergies. This kind of conversation is rare in Phuket restaurants, so this made for our very pleasant change.
Antipasto Platter was the starter of choice. Served on a butcher’s block, the platter featured wonderful roasted peppers, asparagus, eggplant, tomatoes and a crisp brown bread, as well as Kalamata olives. It’s a more-ish starter and, although we chose fruity ‘mocktails’, the antipasto would pair well with a crisp white wine.
Main dishes arrive and we tuck into a delicious meal. I opt for a traditional Club Sandwich stacked high on a toasted Panini. The standout component of the sandwich is the thick, crispy bacon; the toasted Panini adds a nice touch to a typically tasty, but rather same-same sandwich. My dining partner is served an Australian Beef Sirloin Steak grilled to perfection on a plate of roasted vegetables that includes asparagus, carrots, radishes, pea pods, onion, tomato and potatoes. The vegetables are fresh and a great accompaniment to the melt-in-your-mouth texture of the meat.
For dessert, we share an Amaretto Chocolate Lava Cake. Warned that it takes 20 minutes to prepare, when it arrives it is truly delightful – and well worth waiting for. The warm chocolate lava oozes out of the steaming hot cake and melts the vanilla ice cream. A gooey, delicious mess, this dessert is top notch and worth indulging in every bite.
Twilight Sky at The SIS Kata Resort offers up a pleasant dining experience overlooking Kata Beach and the bay. A great place to gather with friends for sundowners, with a wide choice of non-alcoholic beverages, the restaurant is also perfect for a romantic evening with that special someone.
